Your First Visit

Kirkland, Washington

Your cat’s first visit to our clinic is an important step toward a lifetime of good health and happy purrs. We understand that every cat is unique, and every visit should reflect that. Whether you’re bringing in a curious kitten or a seasoned senior, our goal is to create a calm, stress-free experience where your cat feels safe—and you feel confident that they’re in good hands.

We’re so excited to welcome you and your feline friend to our clinic! We know that visiting a new veterinarian can feel a little uncertain—especially for cats. Our goal is to make your first visit as comfortable, calm, and informative as possible for both you and your kitty.

From the moment you arrive, our team will greet you and your cat with care and patience. We’ll give your cat a few moments to settle in, and we’ll take the time to get to know both of you.

Getting to Know Your Cat

No one knows your cat better than you do. During your first visit, we’ll ask about your cat’s:

  • Medical history and any past health issues
  • Daily habits and behavior at home
  • Diet and nutrition (what, how often, and how much your cat eats)
  • Environment (whether your cat stays indoors, outdoors, or both)
  • Any current concerns you have about their health or behavior

These details help us build a complete picture of your cat’s overall well-being and tailor our care to meet their specific needs.

The Physical Exam

After we talk through your cat’s history, our doctor will perform a thorough, nose-to-tail physical exam. This includes checking:

  • Lungs and heart
  • Eyes, ears, and nose
  • Teeth and gums
  • Skin and coat
  • Abdomen and internal organs through gentle palpation

We’ll also check for any signs of fleas, ear mites, or other external parasites. Most cats tolerate this exam very well, especially with our gentle, cat-friendly approach.

Personalized Recommendations

Once the exam is complete, the doctor will review their findings with you and make individualized recommendations that may include:

  • Vaccinations appropriate for your cat’s age and lifestyle
  • Labwork or additional diagnostics if needed
  • Parasite prevention and control plans
  • Dietary advice to support long-term health and wellness

We’ll always take the time to answer your questions and make sure you feel confident about your cat’s care plan.

What to Bring to Your First Appointment

To help us provide the best care, please bring:

  • Any previous medical records, including shelter or breeder paperwork
  • A complete list of medications and supplements, including doses
  • Information about your cat’s diet, such as the brand, flavor, and amount fed daily
  • Your carrier lined with a familiar blanket or towel to help your cat feel secure during travel

If your cat tends to get nervous on car rides, you can place a towel over their carrier or use a calming pheromone spray before leaving home.
