How You Can Help Animal Shelters This Holiday Season
December 4th, 2020
This holiday season, we, at All About Cats Veterinary Hospital, urge you to take a moment to consider ways you can help animal shelters. Thousands of homeless critters will spend the most magical time of the year yearning for a forever home. If you’re not sure how to help, read on to find out some ways you can support our local furry friends who desperately need your kindness.
Volunteer at Your Local Shelter
The holiday season is a busy time, meaning help at shelters is sparse this time of the year. If you have a moment and have it in your heart to make a difference, consider volunteering at your local animal shelter. Many shelters may not have the resources or means to accomplish every task needed. From spending time socializing with these love-starved cats and dogs to cleaning cages, giving baths, or doing odd jobs, any time you spend helping these precious creatures is time well spent.
Donate to Your Local Shelter
Shelters usually depend on generous donations from caring people, and they typically see an increase in pet surrenders during the holiday season, so their needs grow day after day. Any amount of money you donate will help secure food, medicine, and daily needs.
There are numerous other ways you can help. Consider donating pet shampoo, food, leashes, toys, towels, beds, or cozy blankets. If you’re not sure, check with your local shelter and see what they need the most. Any donation can make a significant difference to an animal in need.
Consider Providing a Forever Home
If you’re thinking of providing a loving home to a furry friend this holiday season, make sure to adopt from your local shelter, and encourage others to do so as well. Avoid dealing with puppy mills and breeders who often use inhumane and unhealthy breeding methods.
Adopting a pet is a serious decision, so make sure you’re ready for the long-term commitment. If you’re not quite sure, consider fostering from a shelter. That’s a wonderful way to help a homeless pet this holiday season!
Spread the Word
One way you can help is by raising awareness of animal shelters and their needs this holiday season. Take a moment to reach out to those you know and use your social media platforms to educate your friends and family about the importance of supporting animal shelters. Share fundraisers, events, and adoption profiles. Spreading the word can give an animal a better chance of finding a home and spending the holidays with a new, loving family!
