National Veterinary Technician Week
October 1st, 2019
Did you know that October 13-19, 2019, is National Veterinary Technician Week? We, at All About Cats Veterinary Hospital in the Kirkland area, would like to take this opportunity to recognize and honor the invaluable role veterinary technicians play in providing outstanding, compassionate care to our feline patients. To all the veterinary technicians who work tirelessly each and every day, we thank you for all you do!
National Veterinary Technician Week History
The National Veterinary Technician Week or the Vet Tech Appreciation Week is celebrated annually to honor the veterinary technician profession. It all started in June 1993 when a resolution by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians (NAVTA) was passed, declaring every third week in October a National Vet Tech Week.
What Do Veterinary Technicians Do?
Veterinary technicians are an integral part of a pet's health care team. In addition to taking your furry friend's medical history and assisting in the exam room, our veterinary technicians perform a multitude of jobs. These include working in a laboratory, providing support during surgery, specialized nursing care, emergency care, dental hygiene, grief counseling, and much more. Veterinary technicians closely interact with our feline patients and their families, allowing for a positive and stress-free experience. We cannot overemphasize the incredible support these outstanding individuals afford to our veterinary family.
Showing Appreciation to Veterinary Technicians
The National Vet Tech Appreciation Week is an excellent opportunity to take a moment and recognize the work and commitment of veterinary technicians. During this week, we should all show how much we appreciate these dedicated individuals and highlight their important and challenging roles. It would be wonderful to shower them with kind words and goodies, and to show them how much you appreciate and respect them. They deserve it!
Interested in Becoming a Veterinary Technician?
It takes a unique person with an incredible love for animals and for serving others to choose to become a veterinary technician. If you feel this career path is for you, the rewards will be well worth the effort.
Becoming a veterinary technician typically requires two to four years of secondary education and an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology. You will need to undergo an exam administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards to receive your credentials. You'll also need to complete continuing education credits to maintain your license.
If you choose to, you can further your education and become a specialist in an area of choice, including anesthesia, animal behavior, critical care, and more. We invite you to consider joining the ranks of the special people who make the world so much better – our dedicated veterinary technicians.
Celebrating Our Veterinary Technicians
Join us at All About Cats Veterinary Hospital in celebrating our exceptional veterinary technicians. Stop by and let them know how much you appreciate them. Thanks to them, our team can provide your feline friends with purr-fectly outstanding care!
